Iran, Japan keen on boosting cultural ties

Iranian and Japanese officials called for expansion of mutual cooperation, especially in the cultural field.

Japan's Foreign Ministry's Director General for Cultural Affairs Manabu Miyagawa in a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Japan Morteza Rahmani Movahed voiced his country's readiness to boost collaboration with the Iranian Embassy in Tokyo on commemorating cultural occasions, Mehr News Agency reported.

Rahmani Movahed stressed the significant role of cultural issues in forging and promoting relations between Iran and Japan.

Cultural relations, he added, are the basis of friendly ties between Tehran and Tokyo. He called for the need to expand all-out ties with the East Asian country, especially in the tourism sector.

Japan opened its embassy in Tehran in August 1929 and the two countries are planning to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the event next year. The Japanese Embassy in Tehran will celebrate the 90th anniversary of diplomatic ties with Iran in 2019.

Iran's Cultural Attaché in Japan Hossein Divsalar pointed to the long history of cooperation between Iran and Japan, elaborating on the cultural programs conducted in the past and the upcoming plans of Iran's Cultural Center in Japan.
