Russian Iranologists' confab starts in Moscow

The fourth annual conference of Russian Iranologists kicked off on Friday in Moscow in a ceremony attended by Iran's Ambassador to Russia Mahdi Sanaei.

The objective of the event is to revitalize studies in Iranology and discuss ways to develop Persian language and look into its problems and future prospects, IRNA reported.

President of the Asian and African Institute of Persian Language Department in Moscow State University Vladimir Ivanov and Deputy Head of the Institute Political and International Studies for Research Affairs Morteza Pakdaman were among the keynote speakers at the conference.

Papers were also presented by 27 Iranian and Russian scholars and professors to review the current conditions, future prospects of teaching Persian language. Scholars from Kazan, Saint Petersburg, Dagestan, Astrakhan, Altai Krai, Vladikavkaz, Saratov and Chelyabinsk Oblast attended the event.

Currently, 20 language schools in Russia are offering Persian language courses to those interested in learning the official language of Iran, according to Ivanov.

In mid-November, Ivanov said at the second edition of the national conference of the Persian Language teaching for non-Persian speakers that the Russian Academy of Sciences works along the same lines as the Academy of Persian Language in Iran and provides extensive resources to Persian students by writing books on Persian vocabulary and grammar.

In the two-day conference, which was held at Shahid Beheshti University, he added, "In the Persian Language Department of the Institute of Asia and Africa, some speakers are learning literature, economics and history in addition to language."

Ivanov recalled, "About two years ago, the head of the university offered a new rank for universities in Iran and Russia, which is particularly responsive to the cultures of Iran and Russia."

Moscow State University is among the top 100 universities in the world.
