Eight-month saffron exports up

Exports of saffron from Khorasan Razavi Province have registered a 46-percent growth in the eight months from March 21 to November 21) as compared to the figure for the same period last year, according to deputy head of the National Saffron Council.

Gholamreza Miri told Mehr News Agency on Saturday that 152.6 tons of saffron valued at $240 million were exported from Khorasan Razavi Province in the eight-month period.

He added this shows a 32.46-percent increase in terms of weight and 46-percent increase in terms of value compared to the figures for the same period last year.

He said that the province accounts for 90 percent of Iran's total saffrom exports.

The price of saffron, which had experienced severe fluctuations, has now stabilized, he noted.

He added that saffron producers were satisfied with this year's yield.
