Iranian, Pakistani FMs discuss bilateral, international issues

Iranian and Pakistani top diplomats in a meeting on Monday discussed a range of issues including bilateral ties and recent developments in the world, Iran’s Foreign Ministry’s official website reported.

During his meeting with Mohammad Javad Zarif, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi elaborated that Prime Minister Imran Khan envisions strengthening ties with Iran in diverse fields with emphasis on expanding mutually beneficial economic cooperation and development, according to the Pakistan’s Embassy in Tehran.

Zarif reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to deepen relations with Pakistan in trade, investment and border security.

The two foreign ministers also discussed recent developments concerning peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan and the ways to strengthen cooperation in supporting the Afghan peace process.

Qureshi arrived in Tehran on Monday hours after he met Afghan officials in Kabul.

In a meeting with his Afghan counterpart, he said that reaching peace in Afghanistan is a regional responsibility.

Highlighting Pakistan's efforts to bring about peace, Qureshi stated a stable and safe Afghanistan provides advantages to Pakistan.

The Pakistani official embarked a three-day tour which will also take him to China and Russia.

Talking to media on Sunday, Qureshi said his visits are aimed at strengthening ties and enhancing cooperation in various fields with the four countries.

His trip to Iran came after Zarif visited Islamabad in October.

In recent months Iran’s foreign minister have visited Pakistan several times to discuss many issues, the security in the common border in particular.

Attacks carried out by terrorists based in Pakistan have claimed the lives of several Iranian border guards in recent months. In the latest attack by terrorists on Iranian forces, they kidnapped 12 border guards. Five of them were later released.
