Iran seeks to prioritize further diversity in the value chain of the petrochemical sector in the industry's development plan, which is currently being drawn up, said the managing director of National Petrochemical Company (NPC).

Behzad Mohammadi added at present, 59 petrochemical projects are under implementation, of which 33 are 20 percent complete, Shana reported.

He noted, "Our efforts are entirely focused on selecting effective strategies to speed up the implementation of these projects."

Describing Bandar-e Mahshahr and and Assalouyeh, both in southern Iran, as Iran's two main petrochemical hubs, the NPC CEO added that the development of the industry has been focused on projects in these two areas.

He said in Assalouyeh, the development of the domestic petrochemical industry has taken place in two phases.

Mohammadi noted part of the development of the petchem industry in Assalouyeh involves four projects, including construction of Kaveh methanol complex as the biggest in the world of its kind.

"I believe that the pace of developing the petchem sector will increase after resolving the problems projects are beset with."

He said making maximum use of domestic technical capabilities and capacities is among the main policies of the NPC.
