Iran's banana imports witnessed a 38-percent slump during March 21-November 21, 2018, compared to the figure for the same period last year.
According to statistics by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), 289,921 tons of fresh or dried banana, valued at about $257.56 million, were imported in the same period, Mehr News Agency reported.
Banana imports in the same time-span accounted for 1.35 percent and 0.87 percent of the weight and value, respectively, of Iran's total imports, according to IRICA figures.
During the same period last year, Iran purchased 468,186 tons of banana, valued at $360.59 million. Last year's figures comprised 1.9 percent and 1.05 percent of the weight and value of country's total imports respectively.
Last year's imports of the product were 38.08 percent and 28.57 percent more than this year's purchases weight-wise and value-wise, IRICA figures showed.
