Iran’s Parliament’s Education and Research Committee have been assigned to investigate a recent deadly bus incident happened on the campus of a branch of Islamic Azad University in northwestern capital.
Parliament’s Speaker Ali Larijani urged the committee to fully investigate the incident in order to identify those who are responsible for the tragedy which claimed the lives of 10 people, mostly students, IRNA reported.
Speaking at a session of the Parliament on Sunday, Larijani described the recent bus crash as “a tragic incident” and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of the victims.
Seven students, two women and five men, lost their lives on the spot while three others died in hospital after the bus carrying students overturned on the campus of the Science and Research Branch of the Islamic Azad University on Tuesday.
On Saturday, Hundreds of students of Islamic Azad University held a demonstration in the university where the incident occurred.
Protesters called for resignation of the university’s managers, whom they blamed for the incident. Some family members of the victims also joined the protest.
Police has launched an investigation into the incident.
A recent report by Parliament suggested that there were technical faults with the bus.
Just a moment before the incident occurs, the driver informs the students of brake failure in the bus, the committee said.
