2019 Berlinale to show Iran’s shorts

Iran’s short movie ‘Tattoo’ by Farhad Delaram and Iran-Canada joint production ‘Magralen’ by Maryam Zarei will represent Iranian cinema at the 2019 edition of Berlin International Film Festival, known as Berlinale, in Germany.

‘Tattoo’ is set to compete at Short Films Generation 14plus section of the event. A total number of 2500 film titles had been originally submitted to the festival, 62 short and feature films of which have been picked to attend this division of the festival, ifilmtv.ir wrote.

A brief synopsis of the flick reads, “To extend her driver’s license, she faces some problems due to having tattoos.’’

Delaram, the director of the flick has so far made some six short and documentaries. His short flick ‘Away from Home’ attended last year's edition of House of Cinema Celebration in Iran. This is the first international presence for the young director.

‘Magralen’ will take part at the Short Films Generation Kplus section of the festival.

Generation section of the festival comprised two sections, Generation Kplus and Generation 14plus. Both subcategories accept films with sociopolitical theme to give the young emerging young people a voice. The winners of this section will be the recipient of Crystal Bear awards.

Founded in 1951, the Berlin International Film Festival is one of the world’s leading film events which is held in Germany and celebrated annually in February.
