Majidi received the prestigious title from BFA Council’s deputy director Zhang Jian on November 6, according to IRNA.
The helmer who is highly welcomed by Chinese cinematic officials is supposed to work on the joint project, revolving around Children in China, until the end of 2020.
His Oscar-nominated ‘Children of Heaven’ and ‘The Song of Sparrows’ were also screened for a large number of Chinese filmmakers and film students at the academy and got kudos among the audiences.
Majidi inked the agreement in a ceremony in Beijing with Iran's Cultural attaché in Beijing Adel Khani, China Film Studio staff and China Film Group Corporation in attendance.
Speaking about worldwide reputation of Majidi, Khani said that the director has previously introduced Iranian cinema to the world and now he is a big potential for China to present its cinema to the world.
He added that Iran’s Cultural Center plays a very significant role in boosting cultural ties with China.
