Bangladesh calls for expansion of ties with Iran

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a meeting with the newly-appointed Iran's Ambassador to Dhaka Mohammadreza Nafar on Wednesday called for expansion of relations and cooperation between the two countries.

In the meeting, both sides exchanged views on various issues including boosting cooperation in different sectors, IRNA reported.

The Bangladesh prime minister stressed the need to boost relations between Islamic countries, and said that world Muslims can conquer all problems through unity and solidarity.

The prime minister mentioned that the people suffer most when a conflict occurs among Muslim countries.

The Iranian ambassador congratulated her party’s victory in the country's recent nationwide elections.

Sheikh Hasina secured her third consecutive term with a landslide victory in Bangladesh's national election in December.

Her party and its allies won almost all of the 300 parliamentary seats contested in its best ever result.
