Iran is ready to work with all of its neighbors to secure peace in the Middle East in the face of US and Israeli aggression, President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday.
"Iran is ready to work with regional states to preserve security in the Middle East," Rouhani said in a public speech in the southern Hormuzgan Province. "We want to establish brotherly ties with all countries of the region ... Iran has never started any aggression in the region."
The Iranian president said those regional governments that believe the United States and Israel can bring them security are “terribly wrong.”
"Those regional states that believe Israel and America can establish security are terribly wrong. We, the Muslims, should ensure the regional security," Rouhani said, to chants of "Death to America," and "Death to Israel".
Rouhani said the region did not need US presence, saying the sooner foreign forces pulled out of the region, the greater stability and security would follow.
He also denounced attempts by certain powers to sow discord among various ethnicities, religions, and nations in the Middle East.
“Throughout these years, enemies and arrogant powers sought to create discord between the ethnic groups, religions and nations of the region, and they were sometimes completely unsuccessful, but unfortunately they sometimes achieved their goal.”
