Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei called for stronger ties between Iran and Armenia.

“Contrary to the Americans’ desire, Iran-Armenia relations must be firm, continuous and friendly,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in his meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Tehran.

The Leader said the US is against Iran-Armenia relations and other nations’ interests, but “we have a duty to strengthen our cooperation and ties.”

“The Americans are totally unreliable and seek to cause sedition, corruption, discord and war everywhere,” he said.

Ayatollah Khamenei described Iran and Armenia as “good neighbors” with “historical connections” and said Tehran and Yerevan need to increase their economic cooperation.

The Leader praised Iran’s Armenian soldiers, who sacrificed their lives during the Iraqi-imposed war back in 1980s.

“I have paid visits to the houses of these martyrs in Tehran, because we consider the Armenian martyrs as the honors of Iran just like the Muslim martyrs of the imposed war,” he said.

Pashinyan hailed the history of friendly relations between the two countries as “a useful ground for expanding ties.”

“Armenia has never participated in any anti-Iran action in any way and will never do so, and we see the enhancement of relations with Iran in favor of our people and our country,” he said.
