Iran, Switzerland sign MoU on agro research

Iran and Switzerland signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on research in the agriculture sector.

The MoU was signed by Iran's Deputy Agriculture Minister Kazem Khavazi and Bernard Lehmann, the director of the Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) of Switzerland in Tehran on Sunday.

On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, the Iranian deputy minister, who is the head of Agricultural Research, Training and Promotion Organization, said that cooperation on production and seeding vegetable, seafood and related technologies is included in the MoU.

Khavazi said training, conservation of genetic resources considering international law, modern technology in plant breeding and seeds, research into new methods of livestock production, livestock feeding and waste utilization will be prioritized in cooperation with the Swiss side.

He said setting up an integrated technology-based system in the agricultural sector, transfer of latest methods of promoting the utilization and multilateral meetings on education in Iran are among other fields of cooperation.

Lehmann said that agricultural cooperation proposals are a platform for boosting agro ties in various fields.

He said, "We are looking for methods for sustainable land use and climate change management and we hope that the cooperation between the two countries will be fruitful in these areas."
