Iran’s Zob Ahan will be looking to build on last Thursday’s domestic league victory over Padideh when facing Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr at the 2019 AFC Champions League in Dubai, the UAE, on Monday.
Both sides will be searching their first victory in Group A.
The Isfahan-based club was held to a goalless draw at home against Iraq’s Al Zawraa last Monday despite dominating vast majority of the game.
Zob Ahan, however, claimed a first Persian Gulf Pro League victory since last August, only the third of the season, with a 1-0 morale-boosting triumph over title contender Padideh to edge away from the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, in its first game in the competition since 2016, Al Nassr went down 1-0 to Al Wasl, also in Dubai, and the Riyadh side has now gone four games on the continent without registering a goal.
Despite a poor record in Asia, Al Nassr has been on a superb run domestically and scored deep into stoppage time to secure a 3-2 win against Ettifaq on Friday and move within four points of Saudi Pro League leader Al Hilal.
Al Nassr and Zob Ahan also met twice in the 2016 group stage with the Iranian side posting back-to-back 3-0 victories as it advanced to the knockout rounds and the Saudi side was eliminated.
