'Iran, Cradle of Civilization' exhibition opens in Spain

“Iran, Cradle of Civilization,” an exhibition of nearly two hundred valuable pieces of works, showcasing thousands of years of the country’s history, was inaugurated at the Archeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ) in south eastern Spain.

The Iranian Ambassador to Spain Hassan Qashqavi and Jebrail Nokande, director of National Museum of Iran, as well as several local Spanish authorities took part in the inaugural ceremony on Thursday.

The Iranian envoy called the exhibition the most important cultural event that’s been held during the past 400 years of bilateral relations, IRNA reported.

“196 valuable historical pieces of a large span of Iranian history, starting from pre-historical era to the Islamic period, are being demonstrated as part of this exhibition,” Nokande said, adding that “pieces as old as seven to 10,000 years old, a letter by King Abbas of the Safavid Empire to Spanish King Filip the Third about the first Iranian ambassador to Spain as well as a 400-year-old Quran manuscript are included in the exhibition.”

The Alicante exhibition, which opened on March 14, will run to September at the Alicante Archeological Museum MARQ.
