Addressing the ceremony, Iran ambassador to Ecuador Saadat Aqajani underlined the importance of holding ceremonies like Nowruz and said many countries in Eurasia and the Central Asia like Turkey, Afghanistan and Tajikistan celebrate Nowruz.
Referring to Andean New Year in Ecuador, he said the “Mushuk Nina” ceremonies are also held on March 21, IRNA reported.
He added that Nowruz enjoys many common elements with lonts of nations and is regarded as a good ground for reinforcing cultural commonalities between two nations
During the event which was held with the attendance of foreign ambassadors to Ecuador, a number of artists and cultural figures as well as Iranian nationals, Iranian artists performed traditional music and theater.
Nowruz (meaning new day in Persian) marks the first day of spring.
The Persian New Year is celebrated across the world by various countries, particularly Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, countries falling within the Former Yugoslavia, Republic of Macedonia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
It was registered as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009 by the UN.
The celebration has so far been held in many countries like Russia, Belarus, Netherlands, and Hungary and also in the United Nations.
