Ferry service for pilgrims to Iran soon: Pak minister

Pakistan’s Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi has informed a parliamentary panel that the government soon is going to launch a ferry service for pilgrims to Iran, local media reported.

In a briefing to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs, he said that large vessels would be used for the ferry service from Karachi to Bandar Abbas via Gwadar, IRNA reported.

He said that after the security clearance the service would be launched.

Despite the fact that large number of Pakistanis travel to Iran for religious and commercial purposes, there is no ferry service available between the two countries and the people have to use road and air links for the travel which is quite expensive.

It is said that after the launch of the ferry service best transport facilities would be available to people of both countries who travel on these routes on a regular basis.

Syed Ali Haider Zaidi also apprised the committee which met under the chairmanship of Mir Amer Ali Khan Magsi about the working of Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC), its performance in past five years, acquisition of shipping vessels and recruitments policy vis-à-vis new recruitments.
