Abdul Mahdi: Iraq will never abide by US sanctions on Iran
Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Saturday warned that the US military presence in the Middle East is detrimental to the region, urging Iraq to force them leave the country.
“You need to do something to make the Americans withdraw their troops from Iraq as soon as possible because if they maintain a long presence in a country, it would become a trouble (for that country) to force them out,” Ayatollah Khamenei told visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi in Tehran.
The Leader warned that “the US is plotting to drive the current politicians in the Iraqi government and parliament out” of Iraq’s political sphere because Washington sees them as “unfavorable”.
Abdul Mahdi, for his part, hailed Iran’s support for Iraq in the fight against the Daesh terror group which ran over the country in 2013, saying Tehran stood by Bagdad in that hard time.
He said although Daesh remnants are still active in Iraq, the country has “good security and stability”
The prime minister described relations between the two neighbors as “special”, saying Iraq will never abide by US sanctions on Iran.
