FIff winners announced

The Fajr International Film Festival (FIff) announced the full lineup of winners at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall for their 37th year of celebrating independent, fiction, documentary and animation films from across the globe.

Golden Simorgh for Best Film went to ‘A Russian Youth’ directed by Alexander Zolotukhin, produced by Eduard Pichugin and Alexander Sokurov (Russia).

The Russian film also grabbed Best First Feature Film award in Best First Film Award section.

In Asian Film Awards section ‘Without My Friend’ by Mohammad-Ali Talebi (Iran) received the trophy for Best Asian Film, reported.

The 37th edition was held in the Iranian capital Tehran from April 18 to 25, screening 107 titles from 75 countries around the world.

Iranian and international officials, dignitaries, filmmakers and guests attended the closing ceremony on April 25.

Addressing the ceremony, festival director Reza Mirkarimi said unilateral sanctions the US imposed have not only targeted Iran’s economy, but its culture as well. Despite these difficulties, we managed to organize the annual cinematic event. The good news is that many international filmmakers, critics, and scholars who love Iranian cinema didn’t leave us alone.

The award-winning director and screenwriter added, “This is one of the oldest and the most important film festivals in West Asia. I would like to extend my gratitude to Culture Ministry, Cinema Organization of Iran, Iran's Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Tehran Municipality, as well as many others that helped us hold this year’s event.”
