Iranian director Majidi receives Plaque of Loyalty from SufiSin in Konya

Iranian director Majid Majidi received a special award known as the Plaque of Loyalty from the 2nd SufiSin Festival in Konya, Turkey.

Addressing the ceremony, the secretary of the festival, Abdulsettar Yarar, hailed Majidi’s role in making cinematic works with humanitarian and moral messages and described Iran’s modern cinema as a messenger of spirituality, IRNA wrote.

This year, the secretariat of the festival invited Majidi with ‘The Willow Tree’ and ‘Children of Heaven’. They were screened and warmly welcomed by the audience.

‘The Willow Tree’ was screened in the director’s presence, and he held academic meetings as well.

The SufiSin Festival is held every year on the occasion of the arrival of the 13th-century Persian poet Rumi’s family in Konya. Held from May 1 to 7, the festival is dedicated to films with a mystical and religious theme.

This festival was held for the first time last year, when Iranian filmmaker Reza Mirkarimi’s ‘Under the Moonlight’ was accepted. He was the only director to receive the plaque of appreciation from the festival and the Turkish Ministry of Culture.

The Plaque of Loyalty is granted to directors who have remained loyal to their spiritual and religious beliefs, according to the Iranian member of the International Mevlana Foundation, Forouzandeh Arbabi.
