Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Iran and Niger have great potentials for expansion of relations.

Zarif made the remarks in a meeting with visiting vice president of the Nigerien National Assembly in Tehran on Monday, according to the Foreign Ministry’s official website.

The top Iranian diplomat said there are many areas for boosting cooperation and it is necessary the governments and parliaments of the two countries make more efforts in this regard.

He stressed that further cooperation between both countries’ private sectors can help develop bilateral ties.

The Nigerien official expressed satisfaction that Niger-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group has managed to take positive measures in expansion of telecommunication, academic, political and parliamentary relations.

The Nigerien official also held a separate meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.

During the meeting, Larijani highlighted the importance of the country’s relations with Niger and said Tehran sees no restriction on the economic cooperation with the West African nation.

“According to the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, special attention has been paid to African countries and we are trying to provide assistance (to those countries) in the field of health, treatment, and investment in the auto sector,” he said.

“Iran sees no restrictions on economic cooperation with Niger and its traders can use the Iranian market and buy (their needed products),” Larijani stated.

The Nigerien lawmaker also stressed the need for the two countries to do all in their power to boost parliamentary ties.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who won a second term back in May 2017, has repeatedly stressed his government's interest in boosting relations with African states.
