“The British have served as a military fig leaf for American adventures far too often,” said Ian Williams in a Thursday interview with the Press TV, adding, “Far too much money is being spent on military purposes, far too much is being spent in the wrong way.”
Williams said the Britain’s heavy defense spending over the past decades has greatly affected its economic power, Presstv Reported.
“A small offshore island like Britain needs defense, that’s indisputable, but it’s also true that ever since he World War II Brittan’s economic recovery and growth has been stunted because it spent so much on weaponry,” he said.
However, Williams said Britain’s increased defense spending is merely meant to serve the policies of the United States which seeks to empower its military machine and launch wars around the world.
“When they (UK government) talk about defense they talk about plane and aircraft carriers and buying weaponry from American companies,” he said, adding, America has foisted its useless F35 on the rest of the world, a huge dent on people’s budget which they do not need.”
The expert said Washington has always tried to maintain its level of weapons sale to Britain as high as possible because it could help them advance their military adventures around the world.
“Americans want the Britain defense spending so they can point to the rest of the world and say, we are not alone in Afghanistan, we are not alone in Iraq and heavens knows, maybe we are not even alone in Iran in the near future because we have the British with us,” he said.
