Museums around the world are modern places for cultural dialogue and recreation, Ali Asghar Mounesan added, speaking in a ceremony to mark International Museum Day, IRNA wrote.
He noted that museums are used for exploring nations’ cultures and are among the most important cultural education centers in the world.
ICHHTO head said Iranian museums have held joint exhibitions with a large number of their foreign counterparts, adding that Iran earlier held an expo in the Netherlands which attracted over 600,000 visitors.
He said that was a significant achievement given the population of the Netherlands, which is not a very large country (with 17 million people).
Commenting on important cultural research done at museums, Mounesan noted that these institutions help resolve global problems and bring nations closer together.
Speaking at the same meeting, Cvetan Cvetkovski, the director of the UNESCO office in Tehran, described museums as the most important cultural links among countries.
He encouraged people to promote the culture of supporting museums.
Expressing appreciation for museums in helping preserve cultures, Cvetkovski said that today, these institutes are considered cultural hubs for preserving different nations’ cultures and serve as a liaison among countries, helping them develop more innovative and effective ways for communicating with each other.
