Iran overcame Argentina 3-1 for the fourth victory at the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League in Tokyo, Japan.

On Saturday, Igor Kolaković’s men, having suffered a regrettable 3-2 defeat against Brazil on the preceding night, beat the other South American side of the pool in the first set 25-19 but fell to a 25-20 defeat in the second.

The Asian powerhouse, however, bounced back to win the third set 25-22 before wrapping up the game in a neck-and-neck fourth set 34-32.

Amir Ghafour stole the show for Iran, chipping in 26 points, with Seyyed Mohammad Mousavi adding another 16 to Iran’s tally.

Bruno Lima was the best scorer of the night for the Argentines with 18 points and Martin Ramos also got 15 to his name.

Also on the second day of the Week 2, league leader France beat China in straight sets and Poland came out victorious over Bulgaria in four sets. Italy also defeated Portugal in three sets.

Saturday’s victory kept Iran in the third spot of the league table with 13 points, following France and Brazil.

Iran will finish its Week 2 round of games with an all-Asian encounter with the pool host Japan – which was beaten by Brazil in straight sets later on Saturday – on Sunday, before heading back home for Week 3 where it will be playing Canada, Poland and Russia in Urmia, West Azarbaijan Province, on June 14-16.
