Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and visiting Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe are holding a meeting on bilateral ties and heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington.

Abe who was welcomed by Rouhani at Sa'dabad Complex, is the first Japanese prime minister who has visited Iran in 41 years.

The Japanese premier is also scheduled to hold meeting with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Thursday.
