Speaking in the inaugural ceremony of the 11th Isfahan International Tourism and Handicrafts Exhibition, on Tuesday, Ali Asghar Monesan noted that the ratification of a comprehensive tourism plan, which is being studied in several commissions of Parliament, would help boost Iran’s tourism sector, IRNA wrote.
He hoped the cabinet would approve the bill to bring further prosperity to the county’s tourism industry.
The official said tourism is the third largest sector of the global economy, adding the industry’s upward trend is expected to continue because it consists of several sections.
The ICHHTO chief noted that tourism has economic, social and cultural values in all countries, especially Iran.
“Development of tourism sector, as an important foreign exchange earner, would help boost the domestic economy,” he pointed out.
Monesan said the pace of job generation in the tourism sector is 2.5 times faster than other economic sectors, adding one out of ten jobs pertains to tourism sector worldwide.
He said each tourist is considered as a cultural ambassador and introduces real Iran to people all over the world after visiting the country.
He said Iran, which is among the top 10 tourist destinations of the world, earned $11.8 billion worth of tourism income in the year to March 2019.
“About 203,000 jobs have been generated by the tourism industry in Iran during the period”, he noted.
Trade delegations from 20 countries, including Spain, China, Malaysia, Kuwait, Pakistan, Cuba, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Iraq, Russia, Hungary, Austria, Turkey, Germany, Switzerland, and Afghanistan are taking part in an exhibition which is being held in Isfahan’s Shahrestan Bridge Fairground from June 18-21.
Six out of 14 Isfahan sister cities including Barcelona, Spain; Xian, China; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Kuwait City, Kuwait; Lahore, Pakistan and Saint Petersburg, Russia are also participating in the exhibition.
