Iran, Russia to boost cultural ties

Iranian ambassador to Russia Mahdi Sanaei, in a meeting with the head of Russia’s North Caucasus region of Dagestan, Vladimir Vasilyev and a number of governmental and academic officials, emphasized developing scientific and cultural cooperation.

Accompanied by the head of the university and deputy prime minister of the Russian Republic of Dagestan and the head of Dagestan State University (DSU), Sanaei unveiled the bust of the great Persian Poet Hafez in front of the Faculty of Linguistics of DSU, IRNA reported.

Sanaei delivered a speech about the great status of Hafez among Iranians as well as Russians.

Sanaei was granted an honorary professorship for his efforts in introducing Iran’s history, culture and civilization in Russia.

He translated a number of books and articles into Russian, made great attempts in consolidating historical, cultural and literary commonalities between the two countries, attended the international scientific conference on Russian-Soviet translator M. N. Osmanov and unveiled Iranian awards to Dagestan National Museum.

Dagestan is a federal subject of Russia, located in the North Caucasus region. Its capital and largest city is Makhachkala, centrally located on the Caspian Sea coast.
