Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers collected four medals on the first day of 2019 Asian Junior Wrestling Championships in Chon Buri, Thailand.
On Tuesday, Mohammad Naqousi overcame Akylbek Talantbekov of Kyrgyzstan 6-3 in the final bout of the 77kg weight class for Iran’s first gold of the competitions.
Hassan Forouzandeh, representing Iran in the 87kg category, took the country’s gold tally to two with a 5-1 beating of Kazakhstan’s Meirbek Kordabay.
Ali-Akbar Yousefi wrapped up the night for Iran in style with a technical-fall triumph over Indian Aawesh Aawesh for the 130kg gold.
Saeid Arjmandi, meanwhile, had to settle for a 63kg silver after he suffered a defeat against Assaukhat Mukhamadiyev of Kazakhstan.
Heading into the second day, Iran sits atop the overall standing with 103 points, followed by Kazakhstan (85pts) and India (70pts).
