Two Iranian films get Armenia’s Apricot festival awards

Two Iranian films were awarded at the 16th Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival which was held on July 7 to 14.

At Regional Short Film Competition section, ‘Driving Lessons’ by Marziyeh Riahi won the Golden Apricot.

‘Axing’ by Behrooz Shoaibi received the AAFCCJ award of the Armenian festival.

‘Ray & Liz’ by Richard Billingham won Golden Apricot in Full-Length Films Competition. ‘Beanpole’ by Kantemir Balagov won Silver Apricot in the same competition.

Tinatin Kajrishvili’s ‘Horizon’ was awarded FIPRESCI prize in Regional Panorama Competition.

Iranian director Reza Mirkarimi, Aleksandr Mindadze (Russia), Amy Hobby (the USA), Nicolas Wadimoff (Switzerland), Nino Kirtadze (France), Paolo Bertolin, (Italy) and Elizabeth Karlsen (the UK) were among the jury members.

This year the festival received over 740 films from different countries and selected a number of films from prestigious international film festivals such as the festivals in Cannes, Berlin, and Rotterdam for the program.

The festival had feature films (including fiction and documentary films) as well as short regional film contests; the non-competition program featured a regional panorama contest. The rest of the programs, such as Yerevan Premieres, Retrospectives, and Tribute were non-competitive.
