Malaysia Film Festival nominates Iran’s ‘Axing’ in six categories

The Iranian feature, ‘Axing’, directed by Behrooz Shoaibi, was nominated in six different sections in the third edition of the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest).

The Iranian title is nominated for best film, best director, best actress, best actor, best supporting actress, and best supporting actor awards.

Produced by Mahmoud Razavi, the social drama features a different narrative on how people confront addiction and drug abuse, reported.

“There is nothing harder in life than seeing someone you love decide to be alone. You enjoy seeing her and hearing her voice, but she closed the doors and chooses loneliness in your place ... There is nothing harder in life than being left alone. You see your loved ones and you love them, but they all deny you. They closed doors on you and you are alone. Loneliness is a swamp,” a synopsis for the film read.

Mahnaz Afshar, Sara Bahrami, Jamshid Hashempour, Hadi Hejazifar, Negar Abedi, Shadi Karamroudi, and Amin Hayaee are among the cast.

Written by Azita Irayee, the movie grabbed 10 nominations at the 36th Fajr Film Festival in Iran and scored two Crystal Simorgh awards at the event.

It won the AAFCCJ award at the 16th Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival and Best Actress award (for Sara Bahrami) at the 8th Iranian Film Festival Australia.

The 3rd MIFFest opened on July 14 and will wrap up on July 19.
