ICHHTO official: Foreign tourists visiting Shiraz rose by 12% in the first quarter

Tourists visiting historical and cultural sites of Shiraz, Iran’s southwestern province of Fars, increased by 12 percent in the first three months of the current Persian year (starting March 21, 2019), said the head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) of Fars Province.

Amir Mosayyebi said that more than 2,013,000 Iranian and 147,389 foreign tourists visited the province’s tourist sites, IRNA wrote.

Mosayyebi added that the Tomb of Hafez, aka Hafezieh (381,342 visits); Persepolis (381,342 visits), and the Tomb of Sa’di, aka Sa’dieh, (357,094 visits) stand at the top of the list.

Shiraz is most likely over 4,000 years old. It is the fifth most populated city in Iran, one of the oldest cities in the world, and one of the most important cities throughout Persian history.

Shiraz hosts innumerable attractions, including Hafezieh, Sa’dieh, Persepolis, Delgosha Garden, Qavam House, Afif-Abad Garden (Arms Museum), Eram Garden, Shapouri House, Vakil Mosque, Vakil Bath and Shah Cheragh (Shrine of Imam Reza’s brother), all of which are centuries old.
