‘The Skier’ wins award at Tanzania’s Zanzibar Int’l Filmfest

The Iranian feature, ‘The Skier,’ directed by Fereydoun Najafi, won the Silver Dhow Award at the 22nd Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) in Tanzania.

‘The Skier’ is the story of a young boy, Jolie, who, prior to the beginning of a race in the afternoon, decides to save a mountain goat which is to be sacrificed for the occasion of a traditional ceremony, IRNA wrote.

The cinematic production is an ethno-fictional film that documents vanishing tribal traditions, painting a portrait of the ethnic community of the Bakhtiari people of southwestern Iran.

It has also won the Best Film Award at the 21st Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People in Greece.

ZIFF, also known as the Festival of the Dhow Countries, is an annual film festival held in Zanzibar, Tanzania. It is the largest multi-disciplinary art and cultural festival in Africa dedicated to the exhibition of films, music, and Panorama.  Each year ZIFF exhibits more than 150 films made in Africa, Middle East, Europe, Latin America, USA and Asia.
