Iran was picked as a council member for a two-year period (2019-2021) during the 30th session of the IOC assembly in Paris late June, according to the Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science, IRNA wrote Tuesday.
Iran was a member of the IOC Executive Council from 2007 to 2015.
The IOC is the only UN body specialized in ocean science and services. It helps other UN organizations and agencies develop ocean science, observations and data exchange, and services such as global tsunami warning systems.
