Minister: New ideas help promote Marivan theater festival

Iran’s Culture Minister said that novel ideas help promote Marivan International Street Theater Festival, held annually in the northwestern Iranian city of Marivan.

Abbas Salehi expressed hope that the continuity of the festival help evolve the festival and remove its shortcomings, IRNA wrote.

He made the statements in a meeting with the managers of the festival on Monday, adding that the development of the festival in domestic and international aspects increases the officials’ responsibility toward better holding of the festival.

All-out development in a country is not merely dependent on economic development, culture also plays a significant role, Marivan’s representative at the festival Mansour Moradi said.

Moradi added that holding the festival at zero border zone indicates the security of the region.

Touching the history of the festival, the Culture Ministry General Director of Kordestan Province Jalal Qaleshakhani said the festival was formed to sooth the region’s pain after the 1990-1998 imposed war and gradually it was also held in other cities and provinces.

The festival will put its spotlight on tourism in the region this year, he said.

The director of the festival, Fateh Badparva said that the festival invited almost 100 countries to attend the festival.

He added that this year over 100 works were submitted to the secretariat of the festival.

Previously, Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization deputy director in tourism affairs Vali Teimuri said that the organization plans to introduce Marivan as a tourist destination, and that the Marivan festival can play a key role in this way.

The 14th edition of the festival, which will be held from August 23 to 27, plans to organize exhibitions to showcase handicrafts from western Iranian cities.
