Japan awards Iranian director Kamal Tabrizi with plaque of honor

Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs awarded Iranian filmmaker Kamal Tabrizi with a plaque of honor for his cinematic contributions to the promotion of Iran-Japan cultural ties, according to a statement by Japan’s Embassy in Tehran.

A total number of 206 individuals and 63 organizations have been selected to receive Japan’s plaque of honor by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

The embassy said that Japan hopes that Tabrizi will always work to develop cultural and artistic exchanges between Japan and Iran, IRNA wrote.

Kamal Tabrizi was born on October 28, 1959, in Tehran, his parents having moved there from the city of Tabriz.

He directed ‘Wind Carpet,’ an Iran-Japan co-production in 2001, and acted as an adviser to the director for ‘New Moon Hotel,’ an Iranian-Japanese drama directed by Takefumi Tsutsui, starring Mahnaz Afshar. The film was made in 2019 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Iran and Japan.
