Tour de France: Colombia's Bernel set to win title

Tour de France: Colombia's Bernel set to win title

Egan Bernal is poised to become the first Colombian to win the Tour de France, retaining his overall lead after the 20th and penultimate stage of the race.

The 22-year-old finished fourth, but the stage itself was won by 2014 winner Vincenzo Nibali, who broke from the main contenders late in the final climb to win by 17 seconds at the line, presstv Reported.

Sunday's final stage to Paris is a largely processional ride, with only the final sprint being contested and the Colombian only needing to cross the finish line to win the 2019 edition of Tour de France.

In the overall standings, defending champion Geraint Thomas trails Bernal by one minute and 11 seconds, while Dutchman Steven Krajewski is another 20 seconds behind in third.
