World’s largest handwoven carpet, 600 square meters, unveiled

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani unveiled the world’s largest handwoven carpet at the opening of the Tabriz International Carpet Fair.

The carpet weavers used 70 different dyes for the 600-square-meter carpet, which weighs three tons, according to IRNA.

The carpet, which took six years to complete, will be on display at the fair, which runs until August 4 in Tabriz, the capital city of northwestern Iran’s East Azarbaijan Province.

Accompanied by a number of cabinet ministers, President Rouhani is in East Azarbaijan Province in the third leg of his provincial tour.

The exhibition is in an area of 10,000 square meters and includes 46 pavilions.

Producers of handwoven carpets from Isfahan, Gilan, Qom, Tehran and East and West Azarbaijan provinces as well as a number of foreign countries have also showcased their latest products.
