Speaking at the fair's closing ceremony on Wednesday, Ali Jannati said, “I visited the expo last year and valuable works pertaining to Sacred Defense (the courage of the Iranian soldiers during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war) were put on show at the exhibition,” IRNA reported.
The expo provided visitors with the opportunity to have a first-hand view of high quality works relating to the Sacred Defense events and memories, particularly those of the martyrs, he noted.
Jannati said books pertaining to the war history, geography and operations were also showcased at the expo which are all valuable.
“All of us are responsible for promoting the culture of sacrifice and martyrdom. By keeping the culture alive among the people, we can increase our effectiveness in other fields as well. This culture is also required in the political arena.”
He said the works on display at the fair treasured the memories of the eight years of Sacred Defense.
“The works included books on the memories of martyrs as well as those wounded in action and the combatants.”
Jannati called on the media to promote the culture of book reading in view of the unsatisfactory level of per capita book reading in the country.
“Book reading is among the fundamental issues which should be encouraged and given due attention.”
