Iran’s Oscar entry titled ‘Finding Farideh’, along with five other documentaries, will compete in the documentary section of the eighth edition of the Persian Film Festival to be held in Australia from December 4 to 8, 2019.

The documentary is codirected by Azadeh Mousavi and Kourosh Atai, according to Mehr News Agency.

The other documentaries participating in this section are ‘Shouting at the Wind,' codirected by Siavash Jamali and Ata Mehrad, ‘Like My Name Pegah’ by Soudabeh Beizaee, ‘Gracefully’ by Arash Es’haqi, ‘Beloved’ by Yaser Talebi and ‘To See and To Be', by Ali Shilandari.

‘Finding Farideh’ is about an Iranian girl named Farideh, who was adopted by a Dutch couple 40 years ago and taken to the Netherlands. Throughout all these years, she has not traveled to Iran due to being scared of the trip to her motherland and Dutch parents’ reluctance. She, however, has begun searching for her real parents in Iran from miles away in the Netherlands. She eventually overcomes her gear and travels to Iran for the first time to meet three families who claim to be her real parents and gain more knowledge about her Iranian identity and the country’s culture.

The film is Iran’s entry for the best international feature film section category in the 92nd Academy Awards.

Selected by Iranian independent producer, director and screenwriter of documentary films Mehrdad Oskouei, the six documentaries will compete for Golden Gazelle Award in the Persian Film Festival 2019.

The Persian Film Festival 2019 seeks to highlight the richness of Iran’s cinema and works by Iranian directors from around the globe through screenings films and holding forums, masterclasses and special events.

According to persianfilmfestival.com, the festival will be presented in three venues across Sydney at Palace Norton Street, Central, hosting over 30 sessions, a special documentary program, Q&As with international filmmakers, and a year-round monthly program.
