Chang Hua made the remarks in a meeting with the governor general of Iran’s northeastern province of Golestan, Hadi Haqshenas, during his visit to the region to attend the International Festival of Ethnicities, ISNA reported.
He added but this number is still far from being optimal.
In this meeting, the two sides also discussed the Iranian province’s large-scale agricultural output and high tourism capacities.
“Iran and China are two ancient civilizations and have been trading on the Silk Road for many years, and we are pleased that these exchanges are increasing day by day,” stressed the Chinese official.
Commenting on US unilateral and illegal sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, he added China has always been opposed to unilateral sanctions and expressed its support for Iran as part of efforts to preserve the JCPOA and expand economic ties with the country.
In May 2018, President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed between Iran and the P5+1 in July 2015, and reimposed Washington’s unilateral sanctions on Tehran.
Turning to the inscription of Iran’s Hyrcanian Forests on UNESCO's World Heritage List, he said, “As I told Iranian Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicraft Dr. [Ali-Asghar] Mounesan, I would like to help better present Iran to the world as an honorary tourism ambassador of the country.”
Speaking at the same meeting, Haqshenas said railroad is a good means of transportation for carry goods and passengers.
Iran is willing to make joint investment with China in development of the infrastructure in the area along the Incheboron border in northeastern Iran, he added.
Haqshenas noted that Golestan Province has a rich culture and enormous capacities and is home to diverse ethnicities, adding it is also ranked among top provinces in Iran in terms of having good economic indices.
He said China is implementing a joint venture in the Pakistani port of Gwadar.
“We are also willing to make joint investments with China. Golestan Province is home to over 100 kilometers of the Caspian Sea’s coast. Chinese companies are currently working in Anzali Free Zone [in northern Iran], and their presence will soon be approved in the implementation of the projects aimed at developing Incheboron Free Zone as well.”
In a few days, flights between Gorgan in northern Iran and Kazakhstan’s Aktau will be operated, he said, adding, “We are ready for the presence of Chinese tourists in Golestan Province.”
During the visit, Haqshenas invited the Chinese ambassador to attend a ceremony to mark the inscription of Hyrcanian Forests on UNESCO’s list.
Iran has 31 provinces. Gorgan is Golestan Province’s capital. The province has a population of over two million and an area of 20,380 square kilometers.
The province enjoys mild weather and a temperate climate most of the year. Geographically, it is divided into two sections: 1. The plains and 2. The mountains of the Alborz Range.
The province is home to Iran’s biggest national park. The park spans three provinces of Golestan, Mazandaran and North Khorasan, according to ifpnews.com.
