Japan ended the year on a high note as Asia's top ranked team, while Iran maintained its second place for the second consecutive month and Qatar was the year's biggest mover, following the final FIFA World Ranking for 2019 released on Thursday.

Japan, which overtook Islamic Republic of Iran for top spot in last month's Rankings, maintained its position at 28th, with the Iranians also unchanged at 33rd, the-afc.com reported.

Korea Republic moved a rung up to 40th in third, while Australia maintained 42nd spot.

Qatar was the FIFA Ranking's 'Mover of the Year' after gaining 138 points over the course of a year in which it won its first-ever AFC Asian Cup in January, coupled with a strong Asian Qualifiers campaign. Felix Sanchez's charges climbed a year-high 38 places to rank 55th.

Asia's top five teams will resume their FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Joint Qualification next March.

Saudi Arabia (67th), Iraq (70th), and the UAE (71st) were unchanged, while China PR fell a spot to 76th and Syria at 79th completed Asia's top 10.
