Pakistan's former president to visit Iran

Former Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to arrive in Iran for a three-day visit on December 9.

He is due to attend an international conference called 'World Against Violence and Extremism' in Tehran, Iran's Consul General in Karachi Mehdi Sobhani told IRNA on Friday.

In a meeting with Sobhani, the former Pakistani president praised Iran's efforts against extremism and accepted the invitation to visit Iran.

President Hassan Rouhani, in a speech at the UN General Assembly in 2013, put forward the 'World Against Violence and Extremism' (WAVE) proposal, which was approved overwhelmingly by UN members.
