Iran’s national team head coach, Carlos Queiroz, has called up the squad to play in several friendly matches in South Africa.
The team and the accompanying delegation will leave Tehran for Johannesburg on December 14.
Queiroz has named seven players from Tehran’s outfit, Esteqlal. Only two players from Persepolis, a very popular club also based in the capital, are called up to the squad. And Sardar Azmun, who plays for Russia’s Rubin Kazan, is the only foreign-based player invited by Queiroz.
During the camp which is expected to last until December 27, Iran will play friendly matches against South Africa, Tanzania and Guatemala.
The national soccer outfit is preparing itself for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, which will be held in Australia from January 9 to 31, 2015.
Iran has been drawn in Group C of the tournament along with the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain.
