Fuad Masum, who currently serves as Iraq’s president, has been a prominent figure in the domain of culture and politics. Like many current Iraqi politicians, the moderate Kurdish leader dedicated most of his life to fight for his country but he is not as known as his predecessor Jalal Talabani. Masum is a senior member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and a close aide of Talabani with whom he fought the former Baath regime.
