The Oltān Fortress is located next to Aras River and near the town of Pars Abad in Ardabil Province. The fortress was initially built by the Arsacid but the period of its splendor was at the time of the Sassanid and at the beginning of Islam and because of its solidity and favorable position, it was used until the twelfth century of the Hegira.
Carpet weaving in Ardabil has a long history. Till 1931, carpet was woven in the form of long rugs in sizes of 3.6 and 11 meters. Smaller and cheaper carpets, which were usually sold in the eastern regions of the province, were well-known as Ardabil's long rugs.
