Iran calls for more military cooperation with Pakistan
Iran’s defense minister said Tehran is interested in further military and intelligence cooperation with neighboring Pakistan in the fight against terrorism.

Countering terrorism and divisive plots requires concerted efforts and cooperation among regional countries, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said in a meeting with visiting Adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Tuesday.

Dehqan also called for implementation of previous agreements between Tehran and Islamabad.

Deploring the activities by terrorist groups in Pakistan, their destabilizing measures along the Iranian borders, and attempts by certain regional countries to trigger wars and foment division among Muslim nations, Dehqan said Pakistan can play a more active role in ensuring regional peace and stability.

“Iran and Pakistan’s security is integrated, thus the Islamic Republic of Iran sees no limit to enhancement of military and defense cooperation with Pakistan,” he added.

The Pakistani official said expanding ties with Iran is a principle of Islamabad’s foreign policy.

Aziz also hoped for stronger defense ties between the two neighbors with the exchange of military delegations and interaction between their armed forces.
