‘Appendix’ goes to Spain film festival
The Iranian film, ‘Appendix,’ directed by Hossein Namazi, has been accepted to an international film festival in Spain.

The film will be screened in the screening program at the 18th ImagineIndia Film Festival in Madrid, set to be held from May 17-31 this year in Madrid, Mehr News Agency reported.

Appendix is a social film, which narrates the events in a hospital, full of anxiety and concern. It has previously won Best Screenplay at the 47th Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in Montréal in 2018.

Another Iranian fiction-feature, ‘Orange Days,’ directed by Arash Lahooti, had already been accepted to this year’s film festival.

‘Orange Days’ tells the story of Aban, a 45-year-old female contractor in the tough and male-dominated orange harvesting industry. Aban enters a competition to win a large contract. She wins the deal laying her own house down as security.

Now, she leads a group of female workers who work for her on a large harvest. Her efforts of staying strong in this patriarchal society remain futile while anyone involved in her story, including her husband, stands in the way of her success.

A number of Iranian superstars are in the cast of the film, including Hedieh Tehrani, Ali Mosaffa and Mehran Ahmadi.

The movie won three awards at the 67th Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival in Germany in November 2018.

The 18th Imagineindia International Film Festival is mainly devoted to promoting friendship and cooperation between the Indian Subcontinent, the rest of Asia and Spain, and along with it the European Union.

Its aim is to showcase and focus attention on films coming mainly from India, but with some concessions to the other countries of the Indian Subcontinent and the rest of Asia in order to contribute to the better comprehension of Indian culture, and to the development of more fluid relations among the Indian Subcontinent and Europe.
