Ex-Olympic champion Dabir elected Iran Wrestling Federation president

Veteran Iranian freestyle wrestler Alireza Dabir was elected as the new president of the Islamic Republic of Iran Wrestling Federation.

The voting for the highest position of Iran’s most decorated federation was held on Wednesday and Dabir claimed 31 of 43 ballots to take the helm for a four-year stint.

Dabir won a gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, as well as a gold medal at the 1998 world championships in Tehran.

The 41-year-old was also a three-time world silver medalist in 1999, 2001 and 2002.
