Pique: Messi spat with Enrique in the past
Gerard Pique insists that it is Luis Enrique and not Lionel Messi who makes the key decisions at Barcelona.

The former Manchester United defender also revealed that the pair did indeed have a training ground spat but said it “is in the past.”

In the wake of said spat, there was speculation that Messi had a disproportionate influence at the Camp Nou, reported.

It was reported that such is Messi’s influence that asked for Enrique to be replaced or he would seek an exit from his boyhood club and a move to England.

Messi’s apparent dissatisfaction with the coach’s management style and tactics was said to have prompted talks with Chelsea and Manchester City, while Catalan television claimed Messi had demanded Luis Enrique be sacked.

Messi’s status as a hero to Barca fans for his key role in the team’s most successful era makes him a powerful figure at the club but he dismissed claims that he has influence over important decisions.

However, Pique has moved to dispel those rumors.

“Luis Enrique calls the shots more than Messi, obviously,” Pique told Spanish radio program El Partido de las 12.

“He’s the coach, the boss, though Leo has a lot of clout in the dressing room. There are disagreements in every squad. Luis Enrique and Messi had a spat, but it’s a thing of the past.”
