China upbeat about nuclear framework
China presented an upbeat assessment of the nuclear framework reached on April 2 between Iran and the P5+1 countries in Switzerland.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in a call with US Secretary of State John Kerry that the framework is also good for boosting relations between China and the United States.

“The agreement can be attributed to all sides seizing the historic opportunity through concerted efforts,” Wang told Kerry, China's Foreign Ministry announced in a statement released late on Friday, Reuters reported.

"In a bid to finalize a comprehensive deal as scheduled, China will maintain close coordination with all parties concerned, including the United States, and continue to play a constructive role during the process," the statement cited Wang as saying.

China and the United States are at loggerheads over various issues, including cyber security and China's economic policy, but they also cooperate closely on certain international issues such as the Iranian nuclear case.

The Chinese statement cited Kerry as saying that the United States appreciates China's important and constructive role in the latest Iran nuclear talks.

The tentative agreement, struck on Thursday after eight days of talks between Iran and six world powers in Lausanne, Switzerland, clears the way for a settlement to decade-long dispute between Iran and the West over Tehran's nuclear program.

Tehran and Beijing have close diplomatic, economic, trade and energy ties.

Beijing has repeatedly expressed its support for Tehran’s civilian nuclear program.

US commends Russian role

The United States also hailed the role Russia has played in reaching the nuclear framework with Iran, calling it “very helpful", Sputnik reported.

"The fact that we and Russia, even though we disagree on so many issues, are on the same page when it comes to the Iran nuclear program has been very helpful inside the negotiating room,” said Marie Harf, the acting spokesperson for the State Department.

“It has shown the Iranians that even though we disagree on so many issues, we agree on this."

Harf referred to Russia’s technical knowhow on nuclear issues, saying its technical team played a key role in the negotiations.
